Author
Junling Hu is a technology leader and author of an upcoming book on data mining. Her main interest is applying data mining to large-scale commercial applications.

Before her current endeavor, Junling was Senior Manager of Data Science at PayPal, where she led the research and development effort in data science, to help PayPal achieve large-scale business improvement with data insight. The area of data mining research she led include: Predictive modeling from supervised learning, Recommender systems, text mining and social medial mining. The business applications include: Predicting sales response, identifying most valuable customers, predicting user churns, creating better marketing campaign, and understanding customer satisfaction.

Before joining PayPal, Junling led a data mining team at eBay Inc for almost 2 years. She led the data mining effort on large-scale structured and unstructured data. Before joining eBay, Junling was senior researcher and manager of data mining group at Robert Bosch corporation, the largest privately-held company in the world. At Bosch, she led the data mining effort on large-scale healthcare data, and designing natural language dialog system.

Prior to Bosch, Junling was an Assistant Professor of Computer Information System at University of Rochester from 2000 to 2003. She held joint appointment with both computer science department and the Simon School of Business. Junling also served on the faculty of Management Information System at School of Business in University of Mississippi in 1999. 

Junling has more than 1,000 scholarly citations on her research papers. She is a recipient of Sloan Fellowship for Distinguished Women in Engineering. She is also a recipient of the prestigious CAREER award from National Science Foundation. She served on NSF review panels for funding decision on computer research projects in the United States. 

Junling received her Ph.D. in computer science with focus on machine learning from University of Michigan in Ann Arbor in 1999. She also holds a Ph.D. pre-candidacy in economics from University of Michigan, and a M.S. in economics from Florida State University.
